I’ve always been a big fan of sport!
It all started with playing football, then table tennis, then tennis, before basketball became my big interest. Off course the NBA was the most impressive league of all, so going to the USA was like a dream come true! We had so much fun playing in out small team in Bjerringbro and even though we didn’t win a lot we still had a great team spirit! It was always fun to go to practice. Off course I like to watch the national sports of Denmark, football and handball.
Skiing is something I also enjoy. I have been going on some fantastic trips to France with a group of friends and I look forward to being out there on the slopes again as soon as the opportunity arises.
In the States I got even more into the NBA and went to several games with the Golden State Warriors. I got to see Jason Richardson, Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, Shaquille O’Neal among other stars play live.
We went to an NFL game with the San Francisco 49’ers, which was in a great atmosphere! I followed the NFL season that year and learned most of the rules and off course there was great coverage on TV.
I also followed baseball a little, but the length of the games is sometimes just too much for even the most patient person. We went to a game with the San Francisco Giants and it was a great game to watch with 4 home runs - also one from the legend Barry Bonds.
In Japan my eyes suddenly opened to sump wrestling when I saw a tournament in Tokyo. Even though some matches only last for seconds the tension builds up before the big guys encounter each other with great strength. The wrestlers are actually very quick on their feet despite their size!
Here in Australia I have again gotten familiar a lot of new sports!
I have taken up one of them, which is fairly hard to learn, but really fun once you catch that wave: Surfing! I have my own surfboard and try to go the coast either north or south of Brisbane as often as I can.
I’ve bought a nice second hand road bike so if it isn’t too warm I like to ride the 7 km to work instead of driving.
After Christmas 2006 I’ve started to go to a local gym again, just to stay in shape.
I have discovered one of the most entertaining sports to watch on TV: Rugby League!
The game for real men! They run into each other with full speed and no protection or padding! Brisbane Broncos won the championship last year, winning some great games and that made it even more exciting! It is only played in Australia, New Zealand and England.
I have also followed a bit of the rugby union, AFL (Australian Rules Football), and the worlds most dragged out sport - cricket!
