Joseph and I made a weekend get-away from Singapore to the island of Langkawi in North West Malaysia!

We took a direct flight and arrived Friday evening and went straight to our guest house on the West Coast of the Island.

I decided to go on a dive trip the next day at the Pulau Payar Marine Park. The next day I was picked up in a bus and then we went south by boat for 1 hour before arriving at the beautiful small island. There is one resort at a sandy beach. Here guests could snorkel with many fish and even small sharks! The boat went straight to the dive site with us divers and we saw great marine life including many fantastic fish. Only downfall was the low visibility of 5-7 m.

When I returned to the guesthouse Joseph was keen to go to the cable car and amazing elevated viewing bridge. And the bridge was AMAZING! Spanning a from one mountain to another across a valley, already 700 m above the sea!

Sunday Joseph and I rented a VERY small car and drove around most of the island. We found some nice beaches at the secluded hotels in the North West, had a brief look at the Northern end, went up the high central mountain for some breathtaking views of the entire island and then drove through Kuta, the main city, on the way to return the car before leaving for the airport.

We had a great weekend. However, the islands beaches can be found better elsewhere, Thailand etc. The island has many European and other tourist visitors so it is not challenging to get by.
